AEV’s ProCal Module for the 2007-18 JK Wrangler is a hand-held powerhouse! This essential tool provides JK owners an easy, low-cost way to make a variety of useful changes not offered by the dealer or any other re-programmer. Topping the list is the ability to correct the speedometer and gear ratio when larger tires are installed. When the speedometer is left uncorrected, there is a major degradation in the performance of the stability control (ESP), transmission shifting, and engine performance.
The best part of the ProCal is that it isn’t just for correcting the speedometer. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System can now be recalibrated to better suit aftermarket tires without triggering the dash light. Further, the ProCal Module makes it possible to activate daytime running lamps, “one-touch” turn signals, enable a temporarily increased engine idle speed for winching, clear engine codes, and even has a feature to help alignment technicians align the vehicle perfectly for optimal ESP performance.
The ProCal Module is equipped with a series of easy-to-use DIP switches. By reading the simple Quick Reference Guide included with the ProCal module, a user can quickly dial in a code for the desired recalibration. Once the DIP switches are set, simply plug the Module into the vehicle’s OBDII. The whole process can be completed in mere minutes and it’s just as easy to restore the vehicle back to its original settings with the ProCal.
Please note:
The AEV ProCal cannot change axle gear ratios for 2011+ 2.8L CRD diesel JK Wranglers with manual transmissions. The RESTORE function is not compatible with export JK’s equipped with the 2.8L CRD engine.

There is a sticker on the box of the 2012+ Compatible Procals. If you do not have the box, one way to determine the version of software is to use the Clear DTC function on the reference sheet under Engine Functions. On Pre-2012 models this function completes quickly and just puts the Procal to sleep, there is no audible confirmation from the horn. 2012+ compatible models will honk twice once the routine is finished. There is a rare scenario that can prevent the honk from honking on 2012+ Procals, please contact us if there is any further question as to what version you have.
There are other programmers on the market that allow the changing of tire size and gear ratio. What makes the AEV ProCal unique?
Aside from programming Tire Size and Gear Ratio, the ProCal can be used to alter the Low Tire Pressure Threshold, turn on or off the Daytime Running Lamps, activate or deactivate the Automatic Sway Bar System (certain models only) and activate the One Touch Lane Change features. It also allows you to increase your idle speed, which is particularly useful when winching or using an onboard welder. Further, it can be used to center the steering wheel, or to initialize an AEV HEMI Kit conversion without needing to go to a Jeep dealer.
Can I use the ProCal to change gears on my 2012+ JK?
Yes! As you may know, the new trans controller on 2012+ JK’s will put the transmission into limp mode if it detects a change in the axle gear ratio. AEV’s ProCal allows you to input your new gear ratio into the trans controller so it doesn’t see an error after you swap your gears, avoiding the dreaded limp mode.
Why doesn’t the AEV ProCal have an LCD screen like other programmers available on the market?
Frankly, because it’s overkill, and while it might look cool, it would just add unneeded cost. The ProCal is designed to be a cost-effective solution to seldom-encountered, but very important problems. For example, most people will only need to change the tire size or gear ratio settings on their vehicle a couple of times for the entire time they own the Jeep. Further, they may set “love ‘em or hate ‘em” features like Daytime Running Lamps or One Touch Lane Change and never come back. The dip switches used on the ProCal allow the user to configure the vehicle quickly, and after that the ProCal generally spends most of its time in the glove box where a fancy LCD screen doesn’t do you much good. It is meant to be an affordable specialty tool, not a mobile command center.
Is the AEV ProCal easy to use?
Yes. The dip switches on the back face of the module are easy to configure using the quick reference chart included.
Can’t I just go to the dealer and have all this programmed?
No. The dealer tools are either prohibited from accessing these features or the values are limited to a specific set of Chrysler approved ones. These approved values are not always realistic for off road use or certain vehicle configurations. The AEV ProCal will allow you to set otherwise un-modifiable values.
Can the AEV ProCal give me more power?
No. The ProCal does not affect engine software. There are a lot of companies that claim more power via engine software modifications, but in our experience these changes are often either detrimental or do not truly enhance engine performance.
The AEV ProCal will correct the tire size and gear-ratio values so the engine and transmission will properly calculate data (including automatic transmission shift points and ESP data) inside the factory software, ensuring the vehicle runs as intended.
Will the ESP in my vehicle system be affected?
Yes, for the better. The ESP system uses vehicle speed along with individual sensors that measure acceleration both front-to-rear and side-to-side. ESP functions by calculating how much steering angle the user inputs and how fast the vehicle is going, and then calculates how much side-to-side acceleration should occur. If the side-to-side acceleration is less than what the ESP predicts, that means the vehicle is sliding and it will try to correct the situation by applying specific brakes at each wheel and/or reducing throttle.
If the tire size and gear ratio values are incorrect, the calculations the ESP system processes will also be incorrect. This can cause the ESP system to trigger at the wrong time, which at best can be annoying and if it happens at the wrong time (or doesn’t happen when it should) can be dangerous. Lifted vehicles are more prone to inadvertent ESP activation, because the speedometer is wrong or the steering wheel isn’t centered. The ProCal will allow you to fix these issues so your ESP can function properly.
Does the AEV ProCal change the software of the vehicle?
No. The ProCal only adjusts parameters the vehicle uses in calculations. These parameters will not void your warranty, will not cause reliability issues, and can always be modified or restored to an original value.
Which vehicles can the AEV ProCal program?
The initial release of the AEV ProCal supports only the Jeep Wrangler JK (2007+). Support for other vehicles may be coming in the future.
How long will it take to program my vehicle?
As fast as you can set the switches, but figure anywhere from 5-15 minutes to do everything. The switch is set to either on or off (up or down) and the reference chart (included) lists all the possible combinations. Each function is programmed one at a time. For example, the tires are set with a specific switch combination, and then later the Daytime Running Lamps will be set with a different combination. The actual communication of the module to the vehicle takes roughly a second or two. The longest part of the process will be determining which options you want to set and then configuring the switches on the ProCal.
Can I use the AEV ProCal on more then one vehicle, like if I sell my 2007 and buy a 2009?
Yes, but only on one vehicle at a time. In order to program a second vehicle, you must restore the first vehicle back to its stock configuration. After a successful restore (3 honks) the module is ready to program another vehicle.
What should I set my Low Tire Pressure Threshold to?
That depends. The factory placard pressure is listed on the sticker near the driver’s door. This is based on the vehicle’s factory tires and Gross Vehicle Weight, among other things, and is not necessarily a value appropriate for the current tires. Consult your tire manufacture’s website or documentation regarding an appropriate pressure for the tire and the weight of your vehicle. The low-pressure warning should be set at that value.
I have 35″ tires; do I still have to actually take a measurement when inputing my tire size?
Yes. The size listed on the side of the tire can be off by as much as an inch in either direction. All manufacturers’ values are different, and there can be variation in the manufacturing process. An actual measurement with weight on the vehicle, rounded to the nearest quarter inch, is required in order to get an accurate input.
Do I need to reprogram my vehicle if the battery is removed?
No. The data the AEV ProCal modifies does not depend on constant power and will remain even if the battery has been removed.
I took my Jeep to the dealer and had to re-flash my vehicle, what should I do?
If a feature has been changed by the dealer or anyone else, simply reconfigure the AEV ProCal and follow the original procedure.
Does the AEV ProCal have to be plugged in all the time?
No. The AEV ProCal module was not designed to remain plugged in. Certain features like Extended Idle and Steering Wheel Center Assistance require that the module be plugged in to be activated. Once finished with these features, remove and store the module in a dry place, like the glove box.
I use the metric system, will the ProCal work for me?
No problem. Since the module is primarily marketed in the United States, the instructions show non-metric values. Simply convert your metric values to imperial and follow the instructions as normal.
Where is the ProCal module manufactured?
Expecting us to say China, Taiwan or Hong Kong? The ProCal module is proudly manufactured in Detroit, MI. Try to find an electronics manufacturer that can say that these days!
